I made a big mistake.
Last week I tried to update some of my sites. I ended up crashing them and broke their coding. I had to erase the domains and start over. Sadly… I did not have any updated backups. So that sucked. I’ve spent this past week rebuilding and not working on comics.
I’ve spent the last week rebuilding from old files. It’s been going well. Nakedmancomics.com is somewhat rebuilt. I still must add a few more comics and re-title all the pages. I’ve changed Middleagescomics.com from WordPress to Grawlix. That went well.
The crash brought about a happy opportunity. I added an SSL to NMCcomics.com. This means I can start selling stuff on a secure website. I am pleased to have this opportunity.
I’m mostly back up and running so I’ll get back to the drawing board.
This was suppose to be the cover to Zetaman #1. I nixed the idea because I felt it didn’t look dramatic enough.
Some months ago I did a bit of roleplaying by dressing up as The Schlub.
The Crimson Fist, Atlanta’s Real Life Superhero, is doing a fundraiser for Back on my Feet. Back on my Feet is a non-profit organization that helps the homeless. The Crimson Fist is looking for people to donate art to be auction off. There is more information about the auction at on the Superhero’s Facebook Page- https://www.facebook.com/heroatl.
Fist-a-Con is on April 28 7:30 pm at the Bottle Rocket restaurant. If your in the area, check it out and get a chance to bid on some cool art… especially one from Naked Man Comics!
Hanging with Stan Sakai
The Cartoon Art Professional Society is putting together a fundraiser to help Stan Sakai (creator of Usagi Yojimbo). Mr. Sakai’s wife has suffered a debilitating illness. To help with the cost of 24 hour care and medication, CAPS is auctioning off original artwork.
More information can be found at :
In 2009 I began reading Usagi Yojimbo. At the time I was taking Akido and reading a comic about a Ronin Rabbit inspired me to continue on with the martial art. Over the last few years I studied the Usagi Yojimbo comic because of its well-crafted stories and beautiful artwork. I admire Stan Sakai’s work ethic and his dedication to his creation.
I met Stan Sakai at the 2012 Stumptown Fest. I just finished issue #1 of Naked Man Comics. Although I didn’t have the comic printed in time for the comic fest, I did have a few samples of my work. Mr. Sakai was very kind and looked at some samples I had. He also signed some comics and a few sketchbooks I bought from him. Later that day there was a seminar he spoke at. Mr. Saki talked briefly about his personal journey with Usagi Yojimbo. It was an insightful and inspirational seminar.
Stan Sakai has given a lot to both the independent and mainstream comic world. I really hope that the auction will help Mr. Sakai and his wife through this hard time in their lives.

P.S.S. Just found out the E-Bay auction page where they are selling this image- http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAN-SAKAI-AUCTION-Original-ILLYA-KING-Art-USAGI-IN-ARMOR-Pen-Ink-BEAUTIFUL-/141220716919?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20e1692177. It is truly amazing that I could raise anything to help out.
It’s been little over a year since I started Naked Man Comics and I’ve learned a lot. The primary lesson I learned is that webcomics dominate the independent scene. People love reading free comics online. I don’t blame them. Free is a great price. With that in mind we are going to post some webcomics.
To introduce Naked Man Comics to new readers, I will post a page from Naked Man Comics 2 every Friday at 12 noon. The series will be a striped down version of issue 2 (minus 4 pages). Once issue 2 is done I will take the series down and continue on with issue 3 and 5. This will be a great opportunity for people who want to read Naked Man Comics but are not in the Portland, Oregon area nor have the ability to purchase the comic online.
I will be posting a web series called The Schlub. The Schlub is about a cartoonist struggling to get his character, The Blazing Bag of Poo, publish. Basically it’s me venting with a legal pad and some Sharpie markers. The Schlub will be posted every Wednesday at 12 noon.
For our site members I will be posting a very special web comic. For our fans who have an account on Naked Man Comics will be privy to… the origin of Totally Naked Man. Every Monday, starting on the 8th at 12 noon, our site members will read how Al Fresco became Totally Naked Man. Who were Totally Naked Man’s parents? How did he met Extremely Conservative Woman? Why do citizens of Rose City keep being kidnapped by Aliens?
I have a few more Tales of the Internet Superheroes to post as well as some new characters to introduce.
